Last weekend Year 10 student Ben McLean competed in the New Zealand Indoor Archery Nationals. On Saturday, he placed 1st in his division and 2nd overall in Recurve, just behind Stephen Florence, the top Senior Men shooter in NZ. On Sunday, the Match Play rounds took place. There were about 140 archers at this tournament. Ben soared past them to win Gold and the New Zealand Indoor Nationals Recurve Cadet Men’s position for 2018. He won all his matches 6-0.

Ben’s dad says, ‘Some of the senior archers looked a little confused as to why they can’t beat Ben’. The answer is expressed in the Selwyn motto – Ben aspires to be ‘the best he can be’.
