Just a couple of seconds separated out our new Selwyn Girls’ U16 Waka Ama Team from their rivals at the Secondary School Waka Ama Regionals which were held at the local Orakei Basin this week. Our girls’ placed 2nd overall for both of their race finals. Given that this was the first year that the team had entered the competition, this is an amazing example of ‘soaring’.

Congratulations to Gracie-Mal Makoare-Watene, Cumorah Pihema, Maia Royal, Lucy Jordan, Sariah Pihema, Jasmine Rota, Alex Baritsky-Shepherd and Tiana Manarangi-Brown, their coach Corey Harriman and their Team Manager Monique Pihema for their hard work and dedication to training in the four weeks leading up to the event as well.
