A Momentous Occasion in Selwyn’s History
Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister Opens our Arts and English Learning Areas
Last Friday 23rd March, Selwyn was honoured to welcome our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to open our new Arts and English buildings. She was accompanied by other dignitaries including Hon Kelvin Davis - Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and third ranked member of the current government and Hon Tracey Martin - Associate Minister of Education, Simon O’Connor - MP for Tamaki, Colin Davis - Chair Orakei Local Board and Isabel Evans - Director of Education, Auckland.
We were also honoured to have kaumatua and members of our local iwi Ngati Whatua play an important part in this memorable occasion. A special thanks to the kaumatua and to Matt Maihi for his karakia and mihi for the day.
The event honoured and celebrated the transformation of our amazing school; a decade ago. We would not have dared to dream that local community confidence in our school would result in us needing two new buildings.
We thank the architects, project managers, Ministry of Education and builders for hearing our voices and providing spaces that will support and inspire our current and future learners to develop the Skill, Will and Thrill that lie at the heart of being a powerful lifelong learner and also at the heart of our way, The Selwyn Way.
