Co-Curricular Music

Jazz Band

For brass, saxophone and rhythm section players.  This group rehearses on a Tuesday afternoon 3.15 - 4.30pm in the Theatre Studio.  The Jazz Band competes in the KBB Festival and performs at various assemblies and other performance opportunities.  The Jazz Band  perform at events like the Rotary Formal Dinners and tour local Primary Schools and Rest Homes.  

In 2018 the Jazz Band won Gold and received the 'Chairperons Command Performance Award'
In 2016 and 2017 the Jazz Band was awarded a Silver.

Chamber Choir

An auditioned choir for boys and girls that rehearse on Friday morning 7.40-8.30am and Sectionals: Friday Break 1.  This group will have various exciting performance opportunities during the year. 

Chamber Choir Director: Mrs Rachel Larcombe & Ms Sarah Redford.  
Vocal Coach: Ms Sarah Radford.  
Accompanist: Mr Mark Bradley

Rock Bands

Students work towards the Smoke-free Rock Quest. 
Previously, the band Minutes to Monday won Peoples Choice Award at the Regionals.  This gives the band the opportunity to submit a video for selection for the National Finals.  The band gained entry into the National Finals in 2017.  Only 9 bands from NZ were selected.
2017: Minutes to Monday - placed in the top 9 bands in NZ
2014: Rock Band gained entry in to the Regional's for the Smoke-Free Rock Quest
2015: Rock Band won First Place in the Rock Section of the Play It Strange Songwriting Competition.

Chamber Groups

This year we have a String Ensemble and Flute Ensemble.  All ensembles perform at the annual Music Showcase.

String Ensemble: Director: Ms Belinda Carrigan.  This group rehearses on Friday, break  2 in the Theatre Studio.

Flute Ensemble: Mrs Clare Robinson.  This ensemble rehearses on Monday.

Percussion Ensemble: Mr Alex Freer.  This ensemble rehearses on Thursday and uses a wide range of percussion instruments - glockenspiels, vibraphone, drums, congas, shakers.....

Concert Band

This ensemble is for enthusiastic wind (flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon); brass (trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba) and percussion players and rehearses on Monday 3.15-4.15pm in the Theatre Studio.
The Concert Band will perform at assemblies, Music Showcase, KBB Music Festival and Junior Prizegiving.

In 2018 the Concert Band won a Bronze Award at the KBB Music Festival.

Guitar Ensemble

For budding guitarists to play together in a range of styles: jazz / rock.... Wednesday, break 1 in the Theatre Studio.

We won: Best Props - Kate Janes, Best Set - Duncan Allan and Best Musical Director - Mrs Rachel Larcombe
