Our Cycling Club started in 2017 and is run by very supportive parents. The club provides an opportunity to introduce students to road cycling and develop their riding and racing skills. Students race in the College Sport time trials at Pukekohe during terms 2 and 3, the North Island School Races in Cambridge and the individual championships in Auckland. In 2019 we hope to have riders compete at the National School Races in Palmerston North. With the club now having been going for two years, there is a mix of novices through to very competitive riders, and new riders are always welcome. The club is very welcoming of new riders and has a very supportive culture, and enjoys fun trips away to the various events outside of Auckland.
Both senior and junior, and boys and girls teams are formed for the team racing. In 2018 composite teams have also been formed with Glendowie College and Massey College teams where extra riders are needed to form a team.
Early morning rides before school around the local area (days for 2019 to be confirmed) and some weekend rides. A wind training session one evening per week. Training rides start in early term one. It is also hoped that a cycle training camp will occur during the April school holidays.
Club membership is $20 - students pay additional entry fees for the events that they participate in.
Skin suits for racing are hired out to riders for the year (approx. $40 charge). Riders need to supply their own bike, and helmet. There are a number of second hand bikes available around the local area that members of the cycling club can assist new riders to find. Lights are required for the early morning rides.
Parent assistance is crucial to the ongoing viability of the club, particularly cyclists who can accompany the students on training rides in the mornings and help transport bikes.
