Oliver Spalter Soars in Music-making with the NZSO

Last year our Year 13 student Oliver Spalter auditioned and won the opportunity to play a concerto with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. (A concerto is a musical composition for a solo instrument accompanied by an orchestra).

The concert was meant to take place last year, however, due to Covid, that did not happen. Luckily, it was moved to this last week.  Oliver travelled to Wellington, rehearsed and then performed the first movement of Bottesini’s Concerto no. 2 in B minor with the NZSO. The concert was made up of 4 concerto soloists, and 5 singer/songwriters who had their music arranged for the NZSO. This experience was something totally different to what Oliver was used to, and it was challenging learning how to communicate and control a whole orchestra as the soloist.

We are extremely proud of him.
