Year 11
Course Description: Developing strong English skills is essential for success, both within and beyond school. This course aims to develop students’ skills through the study of language and literature. By reading a variety of texts and viewing films and other visual texts, students explore ideas and language use. Taking part in discussions and developing sound essay writing skills are of central importance in this course. Activities include understanding visual text, presenting a speech, and producing a media presentation.
Level 2
Course Description: This course is designed for students intending to go to university. Developing strong English skills is essential for success, both within and beyond school. Through the study of language and literature, this course builds on skills developed at Level 1. Students read poetry, short stories, view a feature film and/or a Shakespearean play in order to explore ideas and language use. Taking part in discussions and developing sound essay writing skills are of central importance in this course. Activities include creating a writing portfolio, responding to a wide range of individually chosen texts, and presenting a speech.
Level 3
Course Description: Developing strong English skills is essential for success, both within and beyond school. Through the study of language and literature, this course builds on skills developed at Level 2. Students read poetry, short stories, a Shakespearean play, and view a feature film in order to explore ideas and language use. Taking part in discussions and developing sound essay writing skills are of central importance in this course. Activities include extended writing, a research report on an aspect of literature, and an oral presentation.
