ESOL (ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES)

JUNIOR COURSE

This course aims to develop students’ confidence and competence in the use of the English language.  It encourages an understanding of New Zealand life and society as well as providing pastoral support.
 

SENIOR COURSES

Foundation English Language

This course is designed to meet the English language learning needs of students who are working at Foundation and Stage one levels of The English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP). Target students will include students from refugee and migrant backgrounds as well as international students.

ESOL Level 1

This course is delivered over 8 hours a week. This course aims to give students a strong foundation in written and oral language skills to prepare them for integration into mainstream subjects, to support learning in other subjects by careful selection of topics and course components to scaffold students into the types of tasks and texts needed to achieve Level One English Language Unit Standards.

ESOL Level 2

A multi-level course for ESOL learners across all senior levels. Focus is on speaking, listening and reading skills in English. Students are expected to take part in the significant EOTC component of this course. ESOL can be selected across multiple option lines in consultation with the Head of ESOL.

ESOL Level 3

A multi-level course for ESOL learners across all senior levels. Focus is on speaking, listening and reading skills in English. Students are expected to take part in the significant EOTC component of this course. ESOL can be selected across multiple option lines in consultation with the Head of ESOL.
