We use the Competenz Schools resources which help prepare secondary students for a career in Engineering, while they achieve their national standards.

The Competenz resources give students practical projects that build basic skills in their relevant industry discipline. All students complete the safety units required before entering the workshop.
At level one students have two outcomes that introduce them to a range of engineering hand tools, machinery and processes including welding.

At level two those skills are further developed and extended with processes such as milling and lathe work. The course of study consists of projects that help develop basic fitting and turning, welding and sheet metal skills At level two students can also choose to participate in the NZMA programme which allows them to have a taste of a range of possible trade opportunities.
