Our Selwyn Colts are Soaring

So far this year our Selwyn Colts cricket team has soared to win the first three of its matches in a tough high-level Auckland-wide competition and sit at the top of the table!

Last Saturday afternoon, the team enjoyed a great win against Rangitoto College. Playing at home, Selwyn bowled first and immediately put pressure on the batsmen who struggled to get many runs thanks to very tight bowling and sharp fielding. Andrew Lim. Freddie Blyth, Divesh Kamaleswaran all picked up two wickets, with Ruben Frederikson taking the final wicket. Leading the bowling, was the team captain, Rhys Sue who took 3 wickets and bowled 3 maiden overs in his 6 over spell. Great work behind the stumps with Jack Lienert taking two catches as keeper, and Aahaan Melant with a great slips catch. With a total of only 68 to chase down, the result was never really in doubt – and largely done by one player – our opener Aahaan Melant who carried his bat scoring 35 not out.

The previous week they had a dominant win over St Kent’s and in their first match of the season under gloomy skies and gusty winds, our Selwyn Colts secured an outstanding victory against Sacred Heart. We are very proud of their efforts so far and wish the team continued success!
